West Carroll's mission is to educate the whole child by providing options and opportunities for success.

   One of the best kept secrets of Carroll County is West Carroll Special School District which is located in the rural western area of Carroll County. The district was formed in August of 1981 when the Atwood and Trezevant Special School Districts were consolidated. Three county elementary schools serving this part of the county were also included in the consolidation. The district serves approximately 900 students from the communities of Trezevant, Atwood, McLemoresville, Cedar Grove, and Lavinia in three schools.

   The West Carroll SSD is a unitary system and voluntarily complies with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. No busing is necessary. The racial make-up is approximately 88 percent white, 12 percent black, and less than 1% all other minorities.

   The West Carroll Board of Education is comprised of six members. Two members are elected from each of the following areas: former Atwood District, former Trezevant District, and the former County District. Board members serve four year staggered terms with an election of one member from each area in August every two years.

   West Carroll SSD has 77 certified staff members which produces a staff-student ratio of about 1 to 14. All faculty members have a bachelor's degree with 35% of the staff having an advanced degree. The district attempts to keep a staff that is balanced by race and sex. Each staff member is evaluated by a program that is approved by the Tennessee State Department of Education and adopted by local school board policy.

   Bus services are provided to all West Carroll students by the Carroll County Board of Education. Bus services are also provided to high school students who attend the Carroll County Vocational Center in Huntingdon.
